it pisses me off! I’ll go over to a little baby and say ‘What are you doing here? You haven’t worked a day in your life!” +Steven Wright
When you live in business world, you automatically adapt this infatuation with the ocean, the water, and the beach. It just happens.
They talk about their trip to the beach.
They whine about how long it has been to the beach.
They keep their little snow globe on the desk.
It’s not a full globe, it’s this kind of weird half egg typed shape, written in gold glitter at the bottom is the name of the town or city where the awkward half egg shaped globe was purchased in a store littered with T-shirts, shot glasses, and other various paraphernalia marked up 500 times it’s production cost.
It sits on the desk not as a paperweight. It is a gateway. It is magical.
After several consecutive hours of staring red eyed at their inbox and growing tired of reading blog posts by long haired hippy marketing nerds, they stare into the globe and it transports them back to the beach just by staring at it.
So, why this post?
Last night one of my clients said something really cool. His client, who is a distributor of their products, told him that what he wants is to live on the beach. He doesn’t want to work anymore. He has worked his whole life, poured blood, sweat, and tears into his business and he doesn’t want to do that anymore. Here’s the trick. He also doesn’t plan to retire or stop owning his company. He is looking to my client to provide him with the technology to run his business.
How great is that? This guy gets it. The technology is there, it’s readily available, it just needs to be built and it can replace blood, sweat, and tears. It means that this guy can live out his life long dream to live on the beach….not for a week vacation, but forever.
So, why are you reading this post?
Because I want to know what you’re doing with tech that you can make your client’s dream come true….invest the money and let’s take a trip to a place called Kokomo.
